How Star Battle works
Star Battle is a logic puzzle on a square board divided into regions. Sprig uses the one-star rules, with a Sprig in place of each star.
- Each row has exactly one Sprig.
- Each column has exactly one Sprig.
- Each coloured region has exactly one Sprig.
- No two Sprigs touch, not even diagonally at a corner.
Larger puzzles often ask for two stars in every row, column and region; that version is also called two-not-touch. The counting changes, but the no-touching rule is the same. The Star Battle rules page compares the two, and the solving tips walk through the deductions that crack one-star boards.
Three ways to play free
Past daily boards
Every earlier daily, as many goes as you like. Playing them never changes your streak.
Practice boards
Pick Easy, Medium or Tricky and play board after board from the practice pack.
Harder through the week
Monday and Tuesday boards are Easy (6×6), Wednesday to Friday Medium (7×7), and Saturday and Sunday Tricky (8×8). The clock starts on your first tap and stops while the page is out of view. A Sprig in the wrong square costs one of three hearts.

Is it free?
Yes. The daily, the past boards and the practice boards are free in your browser, with no account and no download. The website shows no adverts.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Tap to mark X and double-tap to place a Sprig. On a keyboard, use the arrow keys, X or Space to mark and Enter to place.
Is my progress saved?
Your daily progress, streak and statistics stay in this browser on your device. Clearing your browsing data resets them. See the privacy policy.
